Evaluation Part 1- The Brief

The brief we were working to was "You have been hired by PL Records to manage the promotion of one of their new acts. You have been contracted to create; one music video package, a 6 or 8 gate cover for the artists digipak, an A4 magazine advertisement promoting the digipak.

This is the pitch and the powerpoint used in the pitch made by my partner about her idea and why it should be chosen. She talked about the idea for the music video and how it is conventional of the genre and what narrative structure and devices it has used. She discussed the song and the lyrics used within it and why she chose that song for her idea of the music video.

The Artist

The artist of the song is Tim Mcmorris. When looking for a song to use we had to keep in mind what type of song we wanted which would suit the idea for the music video the best and also be royalty free so that we could use it without worrying about permission. There were many royalty free songs which we could have chosen from but we had to choose the exact right one to work with the idea for the music video. We needed something that was indie, upbeat and about love to match the theme and feel of the music video and in the end we chose to use So Alive by Tim Mcmorris.

Permission
When I was looking for music I was always considering the issue of permission so I made sure to find some royalty free music as it would make the process of acquiring the music less complicated. In the description and the title of the music, royalty free is emphasised and made clear that it is free to use and he gives examples of what types of things his music has been used for.

Music Genre

The genre of music that was used was Indie acoustic guitar and through my research into music videos I found that the music videos for indie songs typically have a narrative style with elements of performance an example of this is Ed Sheeran's Give Me Love which also uses a narrative style. When San told me about her idea for the music video we both had in mind a song similar to something like Ed Sheeran and would be of that genre of theme. So this is what drew us towards Tim Mcmorris as he had a similar style of music as they both heavily feature acoustic guitars and are about love and similar themes. When we found Tim Mcmorris we saw that he had a very distinct look which influenced our final look of the artist. We can see this in the music video and the digipak as they both have an Indie style of clothing and appearance for example they both wear a beanie.
